Mid 17th Century Decorated Holster Pistol With Belt Hook
A very interesting and richly decorated holster pistol for personal carry by a 17th century Roman aristocrat or statesman.
Our pistol – extensively embellished with brass inlay – was custom made in Rome by master gunmaker GBP to be worn by its owner, most likely an aristocrat or statesman.
It features a two-stage barrel, the first octagonal with engraving, in 9mm calibre. The locks are engraved in the Roman style, with ornately cast cock with the master’s mark “GBP” and a ringed top jaw screw. The beautiful briarwood stock is richly and extensively inlaid with brass scrollwork of birds and foliage motifs from butt cap to forend. The ramrod is brass tipped wood and the belt hook is of polished iron.
This unusual and very interesting pistol is a showpiece in its own right and deserves pride of place in the collector’s portfolio of European flintlocks.
