Gentleman’s Pair
This beautiful pair were made in Bordeaux, France in the mid 1700’s. The maker’s names “Robert Bordeaux” are engraved on the lock plates.
“Der Neue Stockel”, Vol II, page 1053 mentions two gunsmiths named Robert in Bordeaux; Bernard and Francois. Both were members of the Gunsmiths Guild.
The pistols have smooth-bore, two stage barrels of 14mm calibre. The furniture is of floral motifs in bas-relief on sterling silver and the full walnut stocks are embossed with floral motifs. The wooden ramrods are tipped with silver. These are a gentleman’s personal pieces, that have resided in Europe until 2019.
